Our Savior Lutheran Church welcomes Pastor Stephen Schmidt

Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church of Strongsville welcomes Pastor Stephen Schmidt as its seventh fulltime pastor in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod church’s 49-year history. he was installed February 1 at a special ceremony attended by nearly 100 people.

He replaces Vacancy Pastor Carl Busse, who has served the 130-member congregation since November 2024.

Schmidt grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota where his father served a number of congregations as pastor. He graduated from Martin Luther Preparatory School Prairie du Chien, WI, in 1988; followed by Northwestern College of Orange City, IA. He then went to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI and was ordained in 1996.

Upon graduation from WLS he was assigned to tutor at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN and taught Old Testament history. While tutoring in New Ulm he met his wife Margo, and they were married in 1998. He was reassigned to Ascension Lutheran of Jacksonville, NC, where he served for nearly 16 years before being called in 2014 to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Oak Creek, WI, where he continued to serve until accepting the call in Strongsville.

He and his wife Margo have two grown daughters. They will be living in Strongsville.

Our Savior Lutheran Church serves the Strongsville, Middleburg Heights and surrounding community with Christian worship and ministry. Throughout the years we have considered it our mission to be part of bringing Christ to the people of metropolitan Cleveland. Like you, we face the seemingly endless grind of chores and responsibilities. But our place of worship offers us a much needed break to refresh ourselves with the comfort of God’s eternal love. Bible Study and our mid-week Bible Class help to reinforce the truths of God’s Word.

Our Savior Lutheran Church:
  1. Grants a ministry by the pastor of counseling, encouragement, and guidance for those in need.
  2. Conducts positive, uplifting, Sunday morning worship services and Sunday morning Bible study.
  3. Offers mid-week Bible study.
  4. Has opportunities to add your vision to our ministry.
  5. Is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), a church body with congregations in all 50 states and many foreign countries.

If you have no church home, or are searching for one, we offer ours to you. If you are already active in a church family, we pray that your Christ-centered faith be strengthened.
